online journalism workshop (SMPA CAPSTONE)

For my senior SMPA capstone course, I took Online Journalism Workshop. During the seminar, we were tasked with three individual multimedia projects: a podcast, documentary and news package. Additionally, I spearheaded the creation of our class portfolio. Check out my work below!

PODCAST

We explored social justice issues impacting the DMV area through audio storytelling. The journey to solving these issues is ongoing — but we hope through our words, we can make some progress. In this podcast, I focused on the history of LGBTQ+ nightlife in Washington, DC.

POLITICAL DOCUMENTARY

We each created a short documentary film following political issues immersed in our communities. Using the skills we honed in class, we sought to pull out compelling characters from our interviews and develop a storyline throughout our videos. In this documentary, I covered Asian Youth Advocacy sparked by the #StopAsianHate movement.

NEWS PACKAGE

Toward the end of the semester, we created a news package focused on compelling and engaging stories about the environment specific to the DMV area. We worked to shed light on some of the main issues affecting the local residents and what measures have been and can be done to help these communities.
